Life at Swinton Green

Swinton Green is a place full of sensory experiences with birds singing, bee’s buzzing, wildflowers growing and animals grazing…

In 2022 the Russell family moved into Swinton Green a 16-acre smallholding based on Swinton Estate North Yorkshire, since the move as a family they’ve all been busy, planting, fencing, building, painting, and taking care of the land. The Russell family have a keen love for animals, outdoors, wildlife and gardening and since the move have been full of ideas to establish Swinton Green to be a place for others to enjoy and have new experiences.

Hannah Russell’ daughter of Mike and Sharron is known for writing books on all her animals and most known for her best-selling book series on miniature Shetland Little Alf, she always wanted to create a place for people to visit the animals and get involved with hands on experiences, workshops, and courses. From Little Alf meet – ups to animal husbandry, to smallholding courses and alpaca walking. A place for education and enlightenment.

Entitled Swinton Green, the centre highlights wildlife and gives people the chance to make memories and connections with animals all breeds and sizes.

Hannah Said, ‘It’s very exciting to be working on this project with the whole family, I have always wanted to create a centre for people to connect with the animals and first had the idea 9 year ago’.

Swinton Green isn’t just about business, it’s about people, helping others, making memories, animals, wildlife, outdoors and adventure. Swinton Green is something unique for people to experience, a place to enjoy, an expanding project for the years ahead.

At Swinton Green you can also find resident artist Sharron Russell, known for her Quirky Cows and farmyard friends, Sharron paints in acrylic art and first started painting in 2018, she has a large following online and the animals at Swinton Green feature regular in her work, in the shop you will find the artwork but can also book a visit for free, visit the studio, shop on site and pick up some gifts for you and loved ones.

The creativity doesn’t stop there, Mike Russell is behind the epoxy resin tables and wood crafts you see online and at Swinton Green, get in touch with what you’re looking for and to see the currently availability of tables and wood crafts.

Swinton Green has grown organically since opening in June 2023, words of mouth, great reviews and Hannah having a huge global following visitor have come along each week to explore and find out more, it’s a book by appointment only as each experience is personal to you…

For the future at Swinton Green, the family have plans to grow more vegetables, start a small flower farm, plant more wildflower areas, and develop wildlife ponds.

In the years ahead you will also see workshops and courses available to book online.
